Kingfisher was part of a series of work commissioned by the Queensland Folk Federation for permanent installation at Woodfordia the site used for the Woodford Folk Festival. The brief was to create a series of large scale bird sculptures perched in the Blues stage area, giving an impression that they were part of the audience listening and watching the music.
